we are at the 13 interchange at highway 24. look at the people who got out of this tunnel as it was filling with smoke this morning after a car caught fire in the eastbound bore of the caldecott tunnel just before 10 a.m. smoke started taking over. so people just left their cars and walked out of the tunneling. the tunnel's ventilation system kicked in but it was a very scary situation for drivers inside. here's how one describes it. >> i just was two cars behind the fire. the chp says to stay in the car and close the windows. but cars exploded so i walked out. it was smoky in there. it was terrible. really. >> reporter: eight people were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. they will be okay. that was done out of an abundance of caution. all bores are open. the number one bore has one closed out because a burned-out car is still there. there are hanging power lines. they should return to normal soon. live in oakland, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> it doesn't look too bad behind you but it must have made a mess with traffic.
